If you have a home theater system, you might need to buy surround speakers. Now that more people are turning their entertainment rooms into home movie theaters with HDTV televisions, getting to watch a movie at home is rivaling the experience of going to the movie theater. However, if the sound quality is lacking then all you will have is a pretty picture and no sound.
Surround sound technology has been around for a long time. Audiophiles have been mixing and matching sound systems and stereo speakers for awhile but only recently has digital technology allowed surround sound to truly shine. By getting the right equipment, you can have a movie theater in your basement.
So what should you look to buy when setting up a surround sound speaker system? A surround sound system will basically need only three things; a source of the digital media, a way to translate that media to audio and video and 5 or 6 speakers (with a subwoofer) so that you can utilize the 5.1 format.
You will need to figure out a few things before you finish purchasing and installing your surround sound system. The size of the room will determine the size of the television which in turn will determine the seating arrangement and the placement of the speakers. Move the furniture around so that the guests are not too close to the TV or too close to the surround sound speakers.
To establish the proper placement for the surround sound speakers you need to do the following. First, you will need to place the center speaker either below or above the television. Then you will want to place the other larger speakers on either side of the television cabinet but at a diagonal right and left of the audience.
Placing the two speakers in the back will actually make the surround system. These speakers can be placed directly behind the audience or can be placed at diagonals left and right behind the seating area. This makes five speakers, but if you want to make it six then adding a subwoofer anywhere in the room will get you to six.
One way to help you place these speakers is using wireless surround sound speakers. By eliminating the wires required to power the speakers and to transmit the audio signal, you eliminate a messy and potentially dangerous tangle of wires.
After you place the equipment initially, you will want to try things out in different areas. Every room is going to have a different acoustical property than other rooms of different shapes and sizes. By moving the chairs and the surround sound speakers around in different spots, you will be able to maximize the acoustics in the room and establish a musical sweet spot for your guests.
If you take your time in setting up your surround speakers, you will ensure that your movie watching nights will be the most enjoyable of all.
